We have had a very busy week in the run up to Christmas! This will be the last piece of homework and the last lot of spellings before Christmas.

Homework Reminder

The homework this week is relating to the fractions we have been doing this week. Please can I remind you that it is expectation that all children hand their homework in every Friday. Work cannot be marked by me if it is handed in late as children need their homework book back.
Rowde Academy has a policy in place that states all children must complete their homework by the due date set (unless absent on the due date or a previous agreement bewteen myself and a parent) by the teacher and lately some children have not been handing homework in on time.
Please also remind children it is their responsibility to remember homework.

Thankyou

Mr. Thomas

Open Classroom Tomorrow!

Open Classroom Tomorrow

Just sat in the classroom about to leave and thought I would remind everyone that it is the first Tuesday of the month tomorrow, which means from 9 (or just before if the weather is really bad) until about half past 9 you are able to come into the classroom, sit with your child and work with them or watch them, whatever you would like to do.

However, as you might be aware, Kellie Oakman teaches the class on a Tuesday and so she will be in charge of the lesson, with this in mind I have made myself available and will also be in the class, though acting as a Teaching Assistant. So, if you would like to ask me any questions or just have a chat tomorrow during this time then please feel free.

Sorry the notice is a little late, but better late than never eh? Hopefully see you tomorrow and have a lovely rest of your evening! I'm off to play football now!

Homework and Spellings (27th November 2015)

This week's homework and Spellings

This week's homework is for the children to write a letter to Jamie Oliver about their new healthy menu they have developed in class. They should invite him to come to school and use their persuasive writing skills in the letter.

In class we have looked at using the power of three (using three adjectives to describe something), rhetorical questions (questions that aren't necessarily answered) and alliteration (words starting with the same sound or letters).

Children should spend between 45 minutes and an hour on their homework and it is due on Friday 4th December 2015.

If you need a paper copy of the homework or spellings it is not a problem, there are always spare copies in the classroom and the children know where they are kept and to just help themselves if they need them. Alternatively there is a copy of the homework and the spllengs below.

This weeks homework:

This week’s homework is a bit of a challenge! This week your homework is to write a letter to Jamie Oliver, about your new school menu. Jamie Oliver is very involved with healthy school menus and you are going to try and convince him that you have developed the ultimate healthy school menu! I want you to invite him to our school to look at our menus.
You should spend between 45 minutes and 1 hour completing your homework. This letter should also be completed in your homework book.
If you lose your homework or your spellings remember we always keep extra copies in the classroom, and a copy can also be found on the blog.

In your letter you should:
·         First, explain to Mr Oliver about what we have been doing in class, tell him about your menu and what you know about eating a balanced diet and why it is important.
·         Then, try and persuade him that your menu is the best healthy school menu there is. Also try and persuade him to come into our school.  Remember you could use some of the persuasion techniques we have been looking at in class:
o   Alliteration (starting words with the same letter of sound) e.g. my perfect pizza.
o   The power of three (three adjectives to describe something) e.g. My menu is amazing, delicious and healthy.
o   Rhetorical questions (questions that aren’t answered) e.g. Do you fancy eating from a menu that is both healthy and delicious?

·         Finally, try and conclude you letter, so can you sum up all the main points and invite him to our school.
Good luck and enjoy
J
