Hercules Homework and Spelling (22nd January 2016)

Firstly, all the roller coaster homework looks absolutely fab thankyou ever so much! Secondly the class as a whole are all doing very very well at their spellings which is great!

This week's homework will consolidate their learning of column addition and column subtraction. The activities on the homework get harder as they move onto each section. Please encourage your children to start on a task where they feel comfortable / challenged, it is not expected for them to complete every single section.
Also please be aware the red section on the homework involves column subtraction and borrowing and so only a handful of children have attempted that this week. Children will be given squared paper with their homework, if you need more then there will be lots of spares in the classroom. :)

Below is the homework for this week:

This homework is due on the 29th January 2016 and must be stuck into homework books.

The spellings are below:

Yellow Spellings

position
option
instruction
pollution
ambition

Orange Spellings

correction
situation
relation
collection
relationship

Purple Spellings

persuasion
attraction
construction
confusion
cushion

BEANS

Can I also remind you that children should bring in a can of Heinz Baked Beans on Monday.
This is to help them with their art project. If you are not able to get any please let me know by today so I can get some extra at the weekend.

Many Thanks,
Mr. Thomas

Homework and Spellings (8th January 2016)

Happy New Year! I hope your lovely children have enjoyed their first week back as much as I have! We have had a lovely week this week doing plenty of Art and Poetry.

This week is a research project and I have told the children they may research roller coasters in any way they want. They can look at anything they want as well, if they become stuck there are prompts on their sheet.
Below is the homework and it is due on 22nd January 2016:

Homework
This week your homework is to research roller coasters. Roller coasters will be our first topic of 2016 and will take us up to Easter.
You should spend between 90 minutes (1 hour and a half) and 120 minutes (2 hours) on this piece of homework as it is not due for 2 weeks.
You may present your homework in any way that you like. If you decide to complete a project on a large piece of paper or perhaps build something then please take a photograph and stick it into your homework book.

Here are a few ideas to get you started if you are stuck:
  •  The history of roller coasters.
  • Your personal experience of roller coasters.
  • The biggest roller coaster in the world?
  •  The fastest roller coaster in the world?
  • What was the first roller coaster build and when?
Remember these are just ideas if you would like to research something else to do with roller coasters then you should. The most important thing about this project is, is that you have fun with it!
Have fun and enjoy J
Mr. Thomas.

Immediately after Christmas children will return to the 'Friday to Friday' routine. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this.

Homework Reminder

The homework this week is relating to the fractions we have been doing this week. Please can I remind you that it is expectation that all children hand their homework in every Friday. Work cannot be marked by me if it is handed in late as children need their homework book back.
Rowde Academy has a policy in place that states all children must complete their homework by the due date set (unless absent on the due date or a previous agreement bewteen myself and a parent) by the teacher and lately some children have not been handing homework in on time.
Please also remind children it is their responsibility to remember homework.

Thankyou

Mr. Thomas

Open Classroom Tomorrow!

Open Classroom Tomorrow

Just sat in the classroom about to leave and thought I would remind everyone that it is the first Tuesday of the month tomorrow, which means from 9 (or just before if the weather is really bad) until about half past 9 you are able to come into the classroom, sit with your child and work with them or watch them, whatever you would like to do.

However, as you might be aware, Kellie Oakman teaches the class on a Tuesday and so she will be in charge of the lesson, with this in mind I have made myself available and will also be in the class, though acting as a Teaching Assistant. So, if you would like to ask me any questions or just have a chat tomorrow during this time then please feel free.

Sorry the notice is a little late, but better late than never eh? Hopefully see you tomorrow and have a lovely rest of your evening! I'm off to play football now!

Mr. Thomas
